I favor the Boston Red Sox over the Toronto Blue Jays as the teams face off Thursday evening. Boston enters this game 3 games behind the Blue Jays and Yankees who are tied atop the AL East standings. Both Toronto and New York have clinched a playoff berth already while the Red Sox will look to do the same in the near future. Boston is currently 2 games ahead of the Tigers for the 2nd wild card spot. This is a massive game, and I am fired up to tune in and watch it tonight.
Brayan Bello is my preferred starter in this ballgame as the Red Sox right-hander is set to make his 29th appearance of the season. Through his first 161.2 innings of work, he has posted a career-best 3.34 ERA and he has finally taken that step forward in the Red Sox rotation. Louis Varland is an arm talent I am fond of, but the Toronto reliever has not seen his workload built up to be a true starter. Varland will open this game before handing the ball off, and I prefer the predictability of knowing Bello’s workload.
