Chicago Cubs vs Toronto Blue Jays Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 08/14/25

Thursday’s matchup between the Chicago Cubs and Toronto Blue Jays figures to be a very entertaining matchup with Matthew Boyd and Max Scherzer taking the mound for their respective clubs. Chicago grabbed a win in Game 1 of this series on Wednesday, winning by a 4-1 final score. The Cubs hold the top wild card spot in the NL currently and are looking to keep their pace in that spot with the Dodgers right behind them. I favor the Cubs in this matchup from a betting perspective as Boyd has been one of the better starting pitchers in the sport this season. The southpaw hurler has posted a 2.45 ERA in his 135.2 innings of work and I expect a strong effort from the left-hander in this matchup.

Toronto will start Scherzer who has provided the club with respectable work in his age-41 season, posting a 4.21 ERA in his first 47 innings pitched. While still a decent backend rotational option, Scherzer is clearly no longer at the level he used to dominate at, and he is not my preferred starter in this matchup. The Cubs lineup has not been at their sharpest of late with Pete Crow-Armstrong struggling the loudest, but I look for Chicago to grab another win on the road in this game.
