Cincinnati Reds vs Arizona Diamondbacks Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 08/22/25

I find there to be some volatility in Friday’s matchup between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Cincinnati Reds, and I lean towards a win for the underdog Reds as a result. Cincinnati is priced as a +115 underdog in this matchup despite having the better team record, more to play for at this point in the season and the starting pitcher in better form. Zack Littell was acquired by the Reds at the trade deadline as they looked to bolster their starting rotation and make a push towards the postseason. Littell has faced divisional opponents in each of his first 3 outings with the Reds, posting elite outings against the Cubs and Brewers in that stretch. His main concern is the home run ball, but I expect a solid outing from the right-hander in this spot.

Ryne Nelson is someone I am fond of deep down, but his current form is lacking the numbers I’d hope to see from the right-hander. His season-long ERA remains solid at 3.58, but he has allowed 9 earned runs in his last 2 starts alone, and the home run ball has bothering Nelson as well as Littell. With at least 1 home run surrendered in 4 straight and 6 of his last 7 starts, Nelson is not in his greatest form of the season. I lean towards the underdogs at current pricing.
