I lean towards the Pittsburgh Pirates grabbing a win over the Cincinnati Reds on Friday evening. Pittsburgh will play host to its divisional rival while looking to spoil the Reds’ playoff hopes. Cincinnati enters play 4 games over .500 and just 3.5 games back from the final wild-card position in the National League. The Reds will start Chase Burns for this game, as the talented right-hander makes his eighth start as a rookie. His last outing was cut short due to rain, as he tossed just 1.0 inning of work against the Atlanta Braves. Burns had recorded 10 strikeouts in each of his last 3 starts prior to that short outing, and he has 48 total punchouts through his first 28.1 MLB innings. He has posted a 6.04 ERA in that span, however, issuing 12 walks with 4 homers allowed.

Mitch Keller has not been his sharpest of late, allowing 5, 3 and 3 earned runs in his last 3 starts. He is still the second-best starting option in the Pirates rotation, however, and I expect him to deliver a strong outing in his home park tonight. Keller has amassed 132.0 innings of work so far this season, posting a 3.89 ERA in that span. His performance has been similar regardless of venue, but he draws a Reds lineup that has performed better when in their home park this season. Keller also pitched well in this matchup earlier this season with 6.0 innings and 1 earned run allowed back in the middle of May.
