Cleveland Guardians vs Texas Rangers Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 08/22/25

While not my favorite game on the board during Friday’s loaded slate of MLB action, I do lean towards the Texas Rangers grabbing a win over the Cleveland Guardians. Texas is set to start Nathan Eovaldi in this matchup, marking his 22nd start of the season. He enters play with 123 innings under his belt in 2025, and his production has been off the charts in that time with a 0.87 WHIP and 1.76 ERA. He struggled against Arizona earlier this month but also tossed 8 scoreless innings against the Yankees and 7 innings of 2-run ball against the Blue Jays in August. He is my preferred starter in this game.

Slade Cecconi is drawing the start for the Guardians on Friday, marking his 17th trip to the mound for his club in 2025. Cecconi is a decent backend starting option for most clubs, but with 11 earned runs allowed in his last 2 starts and at least 1 home run allowed in 6 straight outings, Cecconi is not in his best form. Texas is an inconsistent offensive unit, but I look for them to provide enough run support for Eovaldi as they look to play spoiler.
