The Colorado Rockies won a baseball game on Thursday! Okay, they have actually won four already this month — so I suppose it’s not that surprising that they were victorious in the series finale at San Francisco. Still, this is a horrendous team — so it is an unexpected development when the win column is found. On the bright side for the Rockies, they are swinging the bats nicely right now to the tune of 5, 5, 7 and 8 runs scored in their last 4 outings heading into Friday’s series opener against the host Atlanta Braves. Leaving Coors Field won’t help, but Colorado doesn’t have a bad matchup on its hands with Atlana’s Bryce Elder on the mound. Elder has bounced back and forth between the minors and the bigs in recent seasons; he’s up right now with Reynaldo Lopez and AJ Smith-Shawver on the Braves’ injured list. The Rockies are countering with German Marquez, who is 2-8 with a laughable 7.00 ERA and 1.68 WHIP in addition to a mere 41 strikeouts and 21 walks in 63.0 innings.
