Reasoning
Don’t look now, but the Rockies are 6-6 and winners of 4 straight after a 3-game sweep of the Houston Astros. There is no time for them to celebrate though, as they make their way to San Diego to play the Padres without any days off. Meanwhile, San Diego is also 6-6, recently finding its groove with 5 wins in their last 7 outings.
Taking the hill tonight will be Randy Vasquez for San Diego. At the time of writing, we aren’t sure who is going to start for Colorado just yet, though it seems the Rockies will deploy an opener. Vasquez has had an incredible start to the season, allowing just 1 earned run on 8 hits in 12 innings. He’s struck out 11 along with 4 walks in those 2 starts against Detroit and Boston. Furthermore, he’s had mild success against this Rockies lineup, holding them to a .239 batting average with just 4 extra-base hits and 1 HR in 71 combined plate appearances. That said, Vasquez has been worse historically against left-handed batters than right-handers, and the Rockies have plenty of lefty hitters in the lineup. For that reason, I lean to Colorado to keep this game close and will take the run line because of it. I wouldn’t mind a sprinkle on the money line either once we know who the confirmed Colorado pitcher is.
