Yesterday’s matchup between the Washington Nationals and Detroit Tigers was rained out, resulting in a doubleheader between the teams scheduled for Wednesday’s slate of games. The first of those 2 matchups will be in the early afternoon as Trevor Williams of the Nationals takes on Tyler Holton and a bullpen game for the Tigers. Detroit benefits in this series offensively from an upgrade in their ballpark, moving from one of the more pitcher-friendly parks to the hitter-friendly park in Washington. They should take advantage of that in today’s matchup against Williams who is not a pitcher that I trust. With a 5.65 ERA in his first 79.2 innings of work, I expect the struggles to continue for Williams today.

The Tigers are rolling with a bullpen game in this spot headlined by Tyler Holton as the opener. It remains to be seen who they want to utilize as the bulk reliever in this spot, but they could go a number of different ways considering their well-rested unit. If they have an early lead or sizable deficit, we could see their lower-leverage arms used in hopes that their higher-leverage arms are needed for Game 2. Ultimately, I lean towards the over on the posted game total in Game 1 of this doubleheader.
