Run Line Prediction

The New York fans are letting the Houston Astros have it but they seemed to be just fine with welcoming pitcher Gerrit Cole. Either way, I am not seeing that as being anything more than the background as the Astros look to get some wins in New York. This is a very good Houston team, they just don’t have “it” the way they did when things were really cooking. I think they are really missing the presence of veteran Justin Verlander, on the mound and off it.

The rest of the American League has to have noticed that the New York Yankees are playing better of late. I am still not sold on this being a team that is destined for any real success this season, but they should at least be in the mix. 1B Luke Voit is not that far off now and he should definitely help balance that lineup with that lefty power bat. The signs are encouraging.

We get a couple of former teammates squaring off on the mound in the series finale. Houston’s Lance McCullers is a talented hurler. He relies a lot on his curveball though and sometimes the feel for that pitch can come and go. He has pitched really well in his last two starts, shutting out Tampa for seven innings in the most recent one. Gerrit Cole is off to a great start for the Yankees. He is very hard to fade but at least when you do you get great value. I like the fact that McCullers is in good form but I just can’t get there in this spot. Cole is making guys whiff more than ever before.

Take New York on the run line.

Game Totals Prediction

The total is low, as expected when Cole is involved. His last three games have been lined at this number or lower with two of those going under. The Yankees O/U record with Cole on the mound is 2-4 and I have to think he might be motivated to really stick it to his old mates. I am leaning to the under here because I think McCullers will have success too against the Yankees’ lineup. Also, the Yankees’ bullpen has been so good this season so there is not likely to be much scoring late in this one.
