Royals vs White Sox Pickswise Expert Predictions
Despite Sunday’s matchup between the Kansas City Royals and Chicago White Sox not being my favorite game on the board from a betting perspective, I do lean toward a Chicago win — there could be some variance in this game. Michael Lorenzen is a wild card, capable of either throwing 7.0 scoreless frames or allowing 6 runs within 3.0 innings. His last 4 starts have spanned 19.2 innings while allowing 32 hits, 4 home runs, 6 walks and 19 earned runs while recording just 14 strikeouts. The White Sox are not the league’s best offense by any measure, but they have shown more signs of life recently with some of their young call-ups performing well.
Chicago will start reliever Mike Vasil in this game as he makes his 19th appearance and first start of the season. Vasil has made several multi-inning appearances including 3.0 or more innings of work in each of his last 3 games. The right-hander has worked his way up from 37 to 43 to 58 pitches in those outings, and I expect 65-70 in today’s start as they continue to stretch him out. I would expect Jared Shuster to work behind him as he is capable of multi-inning efforts, as well, and hasn’t pitched since Wednesday.
