The Kansas City Royals sit four games out of a wild-card spot with 15 games left to play, and they’re a half-game back of the Cleveland Guardians in the race for that postseason berth. This is not quite an elimination, but it’s close, as neither side can afford to lose. Kansas City aims for the four-game split, but it’ll have to solve RHP Gavin Williams, who has pitched well of late for Cleveland. He is 4-1 with a 2.23 ERA and 1.09 WHIP across the past 40 1/3 IP in seven starts, and he is 5-2 with a 2.64 ERA and 1.20 WHIP across 85 1/3 IP in the past 15 outings. He has really kept the Guardians in the hunt with his strong pitching.

RHP Stephen Kolek will make his third appearance for the Royals since coming over in a deadline deal with the San Diego Padres. In two Kansas City starts, he is 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA and 0.85 WHIP across 13 IP with three earned runs and 10 hits allowed. Teams are hitting .204 against him since he donned the Royals blue. With Kolek rolling along with his new team, and Williams in the midst of a sustained hot run, the offense should be hard to come by in this fourth game of a series. Look for the Under to cash, and go rather aggressively on that.
