The truth about these teams right now is that neither one of them can produce any offense, and as long as that trend doesn’t suddenly fall apart on Thursday, this game should be a straightforward Under. Both teams are near the bottom of the league in terms of total offense. The Royals are the worst offense in baseball so far, averaging a paltry 3.13 runs per game. The Rays are averaging under 4 runs themselves, and they are in the bottom third of the league. We also have 2 good starters on the mound in Seth Lugo and Shane Baz. Lugo is a guy who defies logic to me, because I don’t think he should be effective, yet he keeps producing, so I’ve stopped doubting him at this point. Baz is an electric arm who has battled injuries his whole career. But he’s a weapon for the Rays. And aside from all of that, I just love a good afternoon Under. It seems like afternoon games regularly stay under the game totals. I am especially willing to try that with 2 offensively challenged teams and 2 good starters on the mound.
