Kansas City Royals vs The Athletics Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 09/28/25

It is the final day of the 2025 MLB regular season, and we have what could be an entertaining matchup between the Kansas City Royals and the host Athletics. Neither team will be reaching the postseason this year, but there is a chance for offense any time a ballgame is played in Sutter Health Park. Cole Ragans is pitcher who had a very good 2024 campaign for the Royals, but poor play and injury have resulted in just 57.1 innings with a 5.02 ERA this year for the southpaw. Ragans will look to improve that mark with a strong effort to close out his season, but I am not often fond of betting on pitchers in this environment — especially when they haven’t had a very successful season.

The Athletics are rolling with a bullpen game to close out their season, opening the game with left-hander Brady Basso. Basso has just 19.1 total innings under his belt this season regardless of minor or major league, and we shouldn’t expect to see him more than a couple of innings. The Athletics don’t have a very good bullpen, so I expect the Royals offense to contribute toward the game total going over in this game.
