Money Line Prediction
Last night, the Minnesota Twins were on the verge of getting no-hit, but a Brent Rooker double with one out in the bottom of the ninth ruined Patrick Sandoval’s chance at history. After a victory on Thursday evening and another win yesterday, the Los Angeles Angels will have an opportunity to win this four game set on Sunday as they send Jaime Barria to the hill. He will be opposed by Bailey Ober.
Barria only has 6.0 innings of work under his belt at the MLB level in 2021, but in aggregate, his last 121.0 innings at the professional level have resulted in a 5.88 ERA and a 5.49 FIP. He has failed to miss many bats while also experiencing command issues. The Twins rank 11th in OPS and fifth in ISO against right-handed pitching this season and should have no trouble putting some runs on the board in the series finale. Ober dazzled at each of his stops in the minor leagues, but his brief exposure to the big leagues has been quite disappointing. His 5.45 ERA, 4.53 xERA, and 5.45 FIP are an accurate reflection of his inability to put away hitters, in addition to giving up an 8.3 percent barrel-rate and a 43.1 hard-hit percentage.
In this matchup, the Twins have the slightly better starting pitcher and a relatively equal offensive attack to the Angels. Over the last 30 days, Minnesota ranks 10th as a team in bullpen FIP compared to Los Angeles who ranks 22nd. Ober is not a safe option for bettors to trust, but the Twins likely have enough in this contest to pull out a win and salvage a series split.
Game Total Prediction
Neither starting pitcher in this game is likely to be too effective in terms of run prevention. Barria has struggled in each of his stints in the big-leagues over the last few seasons. Ober is still attempting to find his footing as a rookie getting his first exposure to the highest level of professional baseball. Thus far in 2021, Target Field has graded as close to league average with regard to offensive production in day games. In a matchup with below average pitching and above average offense, 10 runs should be a reachable number. Take the over here.
