George Kirby was one of my favorite starting pitchers to bet on during his first 3 seasons in the league, but injuries have prevented him from continuing that path as a model of consistency. Kirby was lauded for his command of the strike zone, rarely issuing walks and becoming a regular parlay piece with his under walk prop. His strikeout upside was also enticing at times, but this season he has not been the same guy. In 108.2 innings this season he has registered just a 4.56 ERA with a career worse 1.27 WHIP. This includes 19 base runners and 11 total runs allowed in 6 innings so far this month.

Kyle Hendricks is 8 years older than Kirby and well past his prime that he enjoyed with the Chicago Cubs. Like Kirby, Hendricks was known for his command of the zone and his ability to win with both a timely strikeout and a ground ball pounded into the dirt. Interestingly enough, Hendricks has nearly identical surface level numbers as Kirby this season with a 4.58 ERA and 1.27 WHIP. He enters this game in better form than Kirby but he is also tasked with facing the tougher lineup. I favor the over in this matchup.
