Eury Perez does not enter this game against the Washington Nationals in his best form, but I still believe he is the better starting pitcher in this game. Perez allowed 5 earned runs in under an inning last time out and has allowed 4 and 5 earned runs in 2 other starts during August. I expect him to bounce out of this funk and find his groove during this final month of the regular season, however, as his talent is too good to be struggling for long. Perez takes on an inconsistent Washington lineup today and I expect him to get back on track.

Someone I don’t expect to get back on track is Mitchell Parker. The Nationals’ southpaw has struggled mightily this season, and his performance during the month of August was even worse. With 9 home runs and 31 earned runs allowed in just 27.1 innings last month, Parker is one of MLB’s best targets for opposing lineups right now. His season-long ERA now sits at 5.94 and it could very well eclipse 6 today.
