As a Pittsburgh Pirates fan, all we ever have to look forward to is hope. Or the potential for hope. Quinn Priester was once of the symbols of hope for Pirates fans, as he was a well-regarded prospect in an organization that loves to hype up their young players. His performance with Pittsburgh was not what he or the organization or the fanbase hoped for, so it only makes sense that he has found his groove at the MLB level with the Milwaukee Brewers. Priester has been working deep into games with 6 or more innings in 5 of his last 7 starts including 7 innings in his last outing. He has also allowed 3 or fewer earned runs in each of his last 10 starts including 1 or 0 allowed in 7 of those starts.

Sandy Alcantara was appearing to have improved his play a bit, allowing 2, 0, 2, and 3 earned runs in his first 4 starts of June, but his last June outing resulted in 7 earned runs against the Diamondbacks. Overall, Alcantara has not impressed me this season and his numbers are rather horrendous with a 6.98 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 80 innings. Milwaukee’s patient approach should force him to succeed in the zone, and I don’t trust his stuff enough right now to win within the zone consistently.
