New York Mets vs Cincinnati Reds Prediction, Odds and Picks for Sunday, 09/07/25

I love a nice MLB debut, especially for starting pitchers. I even like to bet on overs on strikeout props in MLB debuts when the price is right. Today I am betting against Brandon Sproat in his MLB debut, unfortunately, as he is taking on Hunter Greene and the Cincinnati Reds. The Mets have called up several young pitchers now at the tail end of the regular season, and Sproat is among their top prospects at the position within their organization. The former 2nd round pick in the 2023 draft has made a relatively quick pace through the minor league system, but he is not my preferred starter in this game. Sproat has 121 AAA innings under his belt this season with a 4.24 ERA and less than a strikeout per inning. While not bad numbers, they are not eye popping by any means, and he is tasked with pitching in Great American Ballpark for his debut.

Someone who has a ton of experience pitching in this ballpark, and that has pitched exceptionally well there this season, is Hunter Greene of the Reds. In 8 starts spanning 46.1 innings of work at home this season the right-hander has allowed just a 1.75 ERA with 58 strikeouts to only 11 walks issued. Mid-season injury prevented a true breakout season this year for Greene, but he is healthy now and coming off 6.1 innings of 1-run ball against the Blue Jays in his last start. Look for him to attack the strike zone early and often and lead his team to victory over New York.
