Mets vs Nationals Pickswise Expert Predictions
While not my favorite game to bet on during Tuesday’s slate of MLB action, I do lean towards a multi-run victory for the Mets. David Peterson is set to start for New York, marking his 24th start of the season. He enters play after 2 shaky outings, allowing 10 combined earned runs to the Guardians and Braves, but I still prefer Peterson to his counterpart in this matchup. Peterson still has an ERA of 3.30 entering this matchup despite those poor recent outings, and I expect him to pitch well in this matchup. The southpaw delivered a complete game shutout in this spot earlier in the year, for what it’s worth.
Jake Irvin is set to start for the Nationals on Tuesday, his 26th time doing so in 2025. Irvin is an innings eater for this club, and they have allowed him to keep his long leash despite poor results this season. The right-hander has posted a 5.14 ERA so far this season including 14 earned runs with an additional unearned run surrendered in 3 starts so far this month. I don’t trust his ability to generate whiffs in this matchup and expect the Mets lineup to produce.
New York Mets vs Washington Nationals prediction: Mets -1.5 (-120) available at time of publishing. Playable at that price.
