Phillies vs Braves Pickswise Expert Predictions
Since Chris Sale is hurt, it seems like the Atlanta Braves can’t win whenever someone other than Spencer Schwellenbach or Spencer Strider is on the mound. When 1 of those 2 guys toes the rubber, though, they can certainly get the job done. Atlanta got blown out in its series opener against the Philadelphia Phillies 13-0 but bounced back behind Schwellenbach to prevail 6-1 on Saturday. I’m expecting something much more along the lines of Saturday’s contest for the rubber match on Sunday, so my Phillies vs Braves pick is Under 8.5.
Strider is getting the start for Atlanta and he is much better than his 4.07 ERA suggests. The right-hander is returning from an elbow injury that forced him to miss basically all of 2024, so he understandably struggled at the start of this season. Over his past 3 appearances, however, Strider has surrendered just 4 earned runs across 17.0 innings of work while striking out 29 batters. Philadelphia is countering with Ranger Suarez, who absolutely owns Atlanta. The southpaw has owned pretty much everyone this year, as he comes in with a 6-2 record and a 2.08 ERA. Suarez better be good on Sunday, too, because he doesn’t figure to get much run support. The Phillies have scored 1 run or fewer in a ridiculous 4 of their last 5 games.
Phillies vs Braves prediction: Under 8.5 (-110) available at time of publishing. Playable at that number.
