Philadelphia Phillies vs Pittsburgh Pirates Prediction, Odds and Picks for Sunday, 06/08/25

Betting on baseball is a beautiful and yet frustrating process. I looked forward to this Pirates vs Phillies matchup on Sunday for a few days now just to check the radar last night and see rain. This morning the report looks as though rain will affect this game, either causing a pre-game delay or mid-game delay. From a betting perspective I was looking to bet the over on both starting pitcher strikeout props in this matchup, but with rain in the forecast I have pivoted my stance. My favorite prop bet for this matchup is Paul Skenes under 1.5 walks at +115 odds given the combination of his elite command, potential rain that could shorten his outing, and the absence of Bryce Harper from the Phillies lineup. Nonetheless, Skenes should pitch well in this matchup as long as he’s on the mound; he tossed 8 innings of 1-run ball against Philly on May 18.

Cristopher Sanchez did not go up against the Pirates in that series and will have the benefit of facing them for the first time today. The lanky left-hander has been awesome this season with a 3.15 ERA through his first 65.2 innings of work, earning 74 strikeouts along the way. Pittsburgh has struggled with left-handed pitching all season long, both in the strikeout department and in the run-scoring department. I expect a very strong outing from Sanchez as long as he is in the game. If you like this under angle, then it may be best to isolate the starters and target a first 3 under or another derivative market.
