I favor the under on the posted game total in Wednesday’s matchup between the Baltimore Orioles and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Paul Skenes is set to start this game for the Pirates, and the under is always in play when he takes the mound. As a rookie in 2024 Skenes posted a 1.96 ERA in 133 innings of work. This season he has followed that up with a 1.98 ERA in 173 innings. His ability to generate strikeouts and avoid walks is video game like and I am more than willing to bet on him in any situation. He shredded the Dodgers in his last start for 6 scoreless frames, and I expect another lethal outing today.

Tyler Wells was a big part of the Orioles starting rotation in 2022 and 2023 before injuries have prevented his further advancement. Wells is a massive pitcher, standing at 6’8″, but he is more of a control guy who pitches to contact rather than earning a ton of strikeouts. I hope he can regain form post injury and become a part of this Orioles rotation once again. He benefits in this game from facing an inconsistent and vulnerable Pirates lineup that he should be able to contain.
