Pittsburgh Pirates vs St. Louis Cardinals Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 08/25/25

While not my favorite game to bet on during Monday’s loaded MLB slate, I do lean towards a Cardinals win over their divisional rival Pirates. Pittsburgh was favored over the Rockies yesterday by way of a -300 ML price, and they did grab a 4-0 win behind Paul Skenes and company. This Pirates team is not worthy of that heavy pricing regardless of matchup, however, and I look for them to come back to Earth Monday against the Cardinals. Pittsburgh enters this series with a 57-74 record, and it has felt even worse when watching as a fan. Johan Oviedo is set to start this game, marking just his 3rd appearance of the season. While I like what I saw from him in 2023, I would like to see a larger sample upon his return before backing him.

Michael McGreevy has delivered 3 straight quality starts for the Cardinals and he will look to continue that success against an inconsistent ad underwhelming Pirates lineup. McGreevy doesn’t appear to be a high strikeout rate arm, but he has found success by avoiding the free pass and pitching from ahead in counts. The Pirates have shown an inability to generate any sort of consistency this season offensively, and that stems from both a lack of talent and a lack of developmental skills in their organization. Look for the Cardinals to grab a win.
