Padres vs Brewers Pickswise Expert Predictions
We look to Milwaukee on Friday for the start of a weekend series between the San Diego Padres and Milwaukee Brewers. The Brew Crew come into this game as one of the hottest teams in baseball, winners of 9 of their last 10. They also had Thursday off, so everyone should be feeling fresh. The Padres dropped a game in San Francisco on Thursday afternoon, losing 2 of 3 to the Giants. The travel schedule was not kind to them, playing Thursday afternoon and then heading east for a weekend series. That is one of several factors that leads me to take the Brewers on the money line.
The pitching matchup is a mundane one, as Chad Patrick will face Randy Vasquez. Vasquez has been mediocre for the Padres since coming over in the Juan Soto deal. He gives up a lot of homers (7 in his last 5 outings) and a lot of walks, and honestly I don’t see how his ERA is as low as it is at 3.99. A hot Brewers team shouldn’t have trouble with Vasquez on Friday. Patrick has quietly put together a good season for Milwaukee. With a 2.97 ERA, he has yet to allow more than 3 runs in a start. His flaw is that he doesn’t pitch deep into games. Still, I think the advantages are mostly with the home team. I’m backing the Brewers to stay hot.
