San Diego Padres vs New York Mets Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 09/16/25

Clay Holmes has been a success story for the New York Mets in the 2025 season, signing him from their crosstown rival Yankees and converting him into a starting pitcher after a career of being a reliever. Holmes has served as a major part of this Mets starting rotation, tossing 151 innings while maintaining a 3.75 ERA along the way. His production has remained strong to this point, but it is worth mentioning that his leash is seemingly becoming shorter as the season winds on. He is not used to this type of workload, and we could soon see his production take a hit.

Michael King is my preferred starting pitcher for Tuesday’s matchup. King missed all of June and July with injury before returning for 2 innings in August and getting reinjured. He returned to the mound last Tuesday against the Reds, tossing 5 innings of 2-run ball in that outing. Now 7 days later, with 6 full days of rest, I expect King to come out firing for this matchup with the Mets. King is someone the Padres can rely upon when health is there, and they will need his presence atop their rotation come postseason time.
