The San Diego Padres took Game 1 of their series with the Pittsburgh Pirates by a 5-0 final score on Monday evening. Pittsburgh bounced back on Tuesday with a 7-1 victory of their own to tie the series. The teams will face off once again Wednesday afternoon before San Diego returns home to host the Colorado Rockies Thursday night. Pittsburgh will have the day off on Thursday as they travel to Chicago to start their next series with the Cubs.

Michael King is the scheduled starter for the Padres Wednesday as the right-hander makes his 3rd start of the season. King tossed 5 innings with 0 earned runs allowed in his season debut against Detroit. He did allow 4 earned runs across 5.2 innings in his first road start against the Red Sox, but King is still a very solid option in this Padres rotation. We saw both German Marquez and Nick Pivetta pitch very well in this matchup so far and I would expect another decent outing from King in this spot.

Mitch Keller has been very sharp for the Pirates to begin his 2026 campaign. Keller twirled 6 scoreless frames against the Mets on the road and then tossed 6 more innings of 2-run ball against Baltimore last time through the rotation. He did walk 4 batters in his last start which is uncharacteristic for the right-hander. Look for Keller to get back to his ground ball nature in this outing.Both bullpens have their closers available for this game as well as other high leverage arms. Temperatures are also in the low 50’s with wind blowing in, leading to a pitching friendly environment. San Diego could also rest a bat or two given their quick turnaround tomorrow.
