I lean towards a win for the San Diego Padres in their matchup with the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday. I was wrong about the Padres entering 2025 as I expected them to underperform expectations and miss the playoffs. They instead bolstered the weak spots in their lineup, bullpen, and rotation via trade. Now the Padres hold one of the more complete rosters in the sport and they have a very good chance of competing this fall. San Diego is playing solid baseball while San Francisco is not, as the Giants have lost momentum and fallen behind several teams in the standings.

Nick Pivetta is having a strong season for the Padres thanks to pitching in a pitcher-friendly home park. While not at home today, Pivetta still benefits from a pitcher-friendly park today in San Francisco, and he is my preferred starting option for this game. The Giants are starting Kaw-Wei Teng for his 3rd appearance of the season. He posted extremely impressive strikeout numbers in the minors but I want to see him perform with consistency at this level.
