Giants vs Pirates Pickswise Expert Predictions
Logan Webb is set to make his 24th start of the season in what has been another very successful year for the right-hander. The Giants’ ace has posted a 3.31 ERA through his first 141.1 innings pitched, recording 155 strikeouts during that span. Webb faced this Pirates lineup in his last start, posting 5.2 innings with just 1 earned run allowed compared to 11 strikeouts. While Webb is traditionally a better pitcher in his home park, and I don’t love backing pitchers against the same lineup in back-to-back starts, I believe Webb can take advantage of this Pirates lineup once again.
Mike Burrows faced the Giants in his last start, tossing 6 innings of 1-run ball with 7 Ks to only 1 walk issued. His prior start resulted in 6 scoreless innings with 5 Ks and 1 walk allowed against the Diamondbacks. Now Burrows faces this slumping Giants lineup once again, this time in his home park where he has posted a 3.38 ERA across 34.2 innings of work so far. I lean towards the under on the posted game total in this matchup.
