Game Totals Pick
Over 7.5(-115)

The San Francisco Giants earned their first win of the season on Monday, surviving a 9th-inning push from the Padres in a 3-2 victory. Landen Roupp put together a majestic performance, striking out 7, walking just 2 and allowing 2 hits in 6 innings pitched. Meanwhile, Walker Buehler had a forgettable performance, lasting only 4 innings thanks to 5 hits, 3 earned runs and 2 walks. Only 43 of his 72 pitches were strikes.

Tuesday’s pitching matchup is an interesting one. Logan Webb will make his second start of the season for San Francisco after having a complete blow-up performance against the Yankees on Opening Day. The Giants ace surrendered 6 earned runs on 9 hits in 5 innings, which was shocking considering he was so good in the World Baseball Classic (1 ER, 5 H, 11 Ks in 8.2 IP). As for the Padres, German Marquez will make his San Diego debut after spending a decade in Colorado. Marquez allows a ton of contact and has had an ERA over 5.00 more than he’s had one below 4.00 throughout his career. He should benefit from not making half of his appearances in Coors Field anymore, but let’s not act like Marquez’s issues were strictly Coors related. He was dreadful on the road last year, posting a 2-7 record in 15 starts with a 7.32 ERA and more earned runs allowed than strikeouts.

Webb is better than he’s shown recently, but consecutive poor outings in his final Spring Training start and first regular season start are concerning – especially when you see this current Padres lineup has a .300 batting average against him in his career. Not to mention, Webb hasn’t had the most success in Petco Park. In 7 career starts in San Diego, Webb is 1-2 with a 4.38 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP. He’s allowed 46 hits and 19 earned runs with just 28 strikeouts in 39 innings pitched in this park. Considering Marquez is a runs-allowed machine on the other side, I can only look at the over in this one.

Giants vs Padres prediction: Over 7.5 (-115) at the time of publishing. Playable to -120.
