Friday night’s game between the Seattle Mariners and the Los Angeles Angels resulted in an extra inning win for Seattle. We saw another low scoring game on Saturday with Los Angeles winning 1-0 behind 3 robbed home runs from Jo Adell. I do expect to see more offense on Sunday with temperatures in the mid 80’s and wind blowing out towards center field. Seattle should do the majority of that scoring given their softer matchup against Ryan Johnson and an iffy bullpen. Johnson is a highly regarded prospect within the Angels organization, but the 23-year-old was shaky in his season debut. With 4 walks allowed and only 2 strikeouts recorded in 3.1 innings, Johnson allowed 6 earned runs at Wrigley Field in a matchup with the Cubs. He made 14 relief appearances with the Angels in 2025, totaling 14.2 innings with 29 base runners and 12 earned runs allowed. Seattle should employ patience early on and look to pounce on his mistakes in the zone.

Luis Castillo was far sharper in his season debut, recording 6 scoreless frames with 7 strikeouts to only 5 base runners against a very good Yankees lineup. Castillo had a slight uptick in velocity from last season and his stuff looked good in that outing. His 2025 was not the greatest season of his career in terms of his underlying metrics, but Castillo is still a very solid starting option in any rotation. Los Angeles has gone cold offensively since the Houston series, scoring just 8 combined runs in their last 5 games played. Seattle also has the fresher bullpen behind Castillo, and I am fonder of their talent level as well. Look for Seattle to grab a win and the series today.
