DET Tigers Win(-165)

Friday presents baseball fans with a loaded slate of MLB action, and among my favorite matchups is St. Louis vs Detroit. The starting pitching matchup is what has me intrigued for this game, as both starting pitchers are players I am fond of in 2026. Framber Valdez has been one of the steadier pitchers in the sport over the past few seasons, resulting in a massive contract this offseason. Valdez left Houston for Detroit, and in return gets his home starts in a more pitcher-friendly environment. His team debut was sharp, allowing just 1 earned run in his 6 efficient innings of work. Look for Valdez to continue generating ground balls in a successful outing from the Tiger southpaw.

Michael McGreevy is scheduled to make his 2nd start of the season for the Cardinals in this game. McGreevy was the organizations 1st round pick back in 2021, and he has shown flashes of upside throughout his time with the club. The right-hander is well built, but does not generate a ton of swing and miss in his profile. He is content pitching to contact and trusting his defense behind him, but he did struggle heavily against left-handed batters in 2025. Across 188 PA vs left-handed hitters, McGreevy allowed a .912 OPS, and the Tigers lineup is projected to bat 4 lefties within the top 5 of the order today. I also trust the Tigers bullpen more to begin with, especially considering their rest advantage over the Cardinals unit. Given current pricing I side with Detroit in this game.

Cardinals vs Tigers prediction: Detroit Tigers ML (-165) available at time of publishing. Playable to -170 odds.
