The Cleveland Guardians have made an improbable turn in their season, winning the AL Central despite the Detroit Tigers holding a sizable lead in the division for the majority of the season. Cleveland has yet to name a starting pitcher for Sunday’s game against the Texas Rangers, leading me to believe they will utilize a bullpen game. While they have a strong bullpen, management may not give their best effort in winning this game, and we may see lower-end arms used.
Patrick Corbin is the scheduled starter for the Texas Rangers in this ball game. Texas will conclude their season with a .500 record at worst, but the postseason will be played without the Rangers for the 2nd straight season after winning the World Series in 2023. Corbin put together a surprisingly strong season for Texas, rebounding nicely from several down years in Washington with a big contract. In his 151.1 innings of work the southpaw has a 4.34 ERA which is a decent mark for a 5th starter. I lean towards a Rangers win in this spot.
