Texas Rangers vs Kansas City Royals Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 08/21/25

We have an interesting matchup Thursday between the Texas Rangers and the Kansas City Royals. Texas is running out of chances to make a push for the postseason, sitting 5 games behind Seattle for the final wild card spot entering this game. Kansas City sits just 2.5 games back from the Mariners and this is a crucial game for their playoff chances. While the stakes of this game are high, and it may be an entertaining game to watch, I am not a massive fan of this matchup from a betting perspective. That being said, I do lean towards a Rangers win as they look to play spoiler.

Michael Lorenzen is set to start for the Royals with Patrick Corbin taking the mound for the Rangers. Neither starter is a top-end rotational option in this league, but both arms have served as respectable inning eaters in 2025 for their clubs. While Lorenzen enters this game in better form across the last month or so, I prefer Corbin in this game given the opposing lineups at hand. This game strikes me as a matchup with a ton of volatility, and I side with the underdog Rangers at current pricing.
