Rangers vs Mets Pickswise Expert Predictions
I favor the under on the posted game total for Sunday’s matchup between the Texas Rangers and the New York Mets. Texas was 63-66 following their August 21 loss to the Kansas City Royals but they have won 16 of their last 20 games including the first 2 games of this series with New York. They hope their effort isn’t too late, however, as they currently still sit 2 games back of the final wild card spot in the AL. The Mets, on the other hand, were 62-44 following their July 27 win against the Giants but have since lost 29 of their last 43 games played. They now have to battle for a playoff spot in the NL and currently are just a half-game ahead of the Giants for the final wild card spot.
While that makes me lean towards the Rangers from a side perspective naturally, it is hard to bet against the form of rookie Nolan McLean. His first 31.2 innings as a major leaguer have resulted in a 1.42 ERA despite facing a playoff-caliber lineup in 4 of those 5 starts. Jacob Latz has also been in good form for the Rangers as he is being stretched out into more of a traditional starter role. His last 4 outings have seen his pitch count rise from 43 to 84 and those 18.2 combined innings of work have resulted in just 4 earned runs allowed. With both teams fighting for a playoff spot I expect both bullpens deployed and a lower scoring game.
