The 25-year-old physically imposing right-hander has been nearly perfect through 2 starts, tossing 11.2 innings of scoreless ball with 15 Ks and just 3 base runners allowed. Those starts were both on the road, facing the Giants and Mariners, and the young arm is set to now return home for his first start in New York of the season. While he eventually will allow a couple of runs, Schlittler is set up for an outstanding season in this Yankees rotation with the talent he possesses. He faces a tough Athletics lineup that is capable of getting to anyone, but they are not in peak form yet, especially with Nick Kurtz still trying to find his footing.

Aaron Civale is the scheduled starter for the Athletics in this game. Civale is a known entity at this point in his career, posting a 4.14 ERA across 743.1 innings in his career. The right-hander is now on his 6th team and his 4th within the last year, but the Athletics could really use a veteran arm to help stabilize their iffy rotation. Civale was decent in his season debut, tossing 5 innings in Atlanta while holding the Braves to 2 earned runs, but this is a step up in competition in a more hitter-friendly park, and I look for the Yankee bats to get to him tonight.
