The Athletics vs Washington Nationals Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 08/07/25

While Jacob Lopez has walked multiple batters in 4 consecutive outings, he is clearly my preferred starting option in Thursday’s matchup between the Athletics and the Nationals. His last 2 starts have resulted in 9.1 innings of scoreless baseball as he has been able to avoid damage against the Astros and Diamondbacks despite shaky control in that sample. Overall, the rookie right-hander has accrued 70 innings through his first 17 MLB outings this season, 13 of which have been as a starter. His 3.99 ERA is a respectable mark and his 84 strikeouts in that sample are something I look for.

Mitchell Parker is a starting option for the Nationals that I simply do not trust at the moment. Parker allowed 8 earned runs with 12 base hits and a walk issued in his last outing against the Milwaukee Brewers. That was a tough matchup for that southpaw hurler, but every matchup has been difficult for him of late given his poor form. His ERA has jumped to 5.35 on the season to go along with a 1.47 WHIP and while the Athletics lineup is not my favorite to back outside of their home park, I do lean towards an Athletics win in this spot.
