Blue Jays vs Twins Pickswise Expert Predictions
I favor the over 8 at -118 odds in Sunday’s matchup between the Toronto Blue Jays and Minnesota Twins and would suggest this angle to 8.5 at -105 odds or better. Bowden Francis is not a pitcher I trust at all, and the Blue Jays are losing trust in the right hander as his leash gets shorter seemingly each start. He consistently ends under 80 pitches thrown even when his performance isn’t awful, so I wouldn’t expect a very long outing from him today given a somewhat rested bullpen. Still, Minnesota should produce in the early innings against Francis who has a 5.84 ERA in his first 57 innings pitched this season. Bowden’s 6.47 FIP suggests things are as bad as they seem, and Minnesota does have a 107 wRC+ against right-handed pitching since May 1.
Joe Ryan is clearly the preferred starter, but the Twins hefty ML price does not seem worth it against a Blue Jays offense that is in solid form. Toronto has won the first 2 games of this series, games in which 9 and 10 runs were scored respectively. Ryan is capable of pitching well in this spot and still giving up a few runs, and his recent results are an example with 4 and 3 earned runs allowed within his last 3 starts. He will eventually see his BABIP rise and his strand rate fall, and Toronto has a 121 wRC+ against right-handed pitching since May 1. I expect solid performances from both sides offensively and enough runs to surpass the posted total.
Twins vs Blue Jays prediction: Over 8 (-118) available at time of publishing. Playable to 8.5.
