Nationals vs Brewers Pickswise Expert Predictions
The Washington Nationals look to finish the unofficial first half off strong in the series finale at American Family Field in Milwaukee on Sunday. Swervin’ Jake Irvin takes the ball for the Nats, and he is looking to improve upon his 7-4 record. He has had the benefit of rare, tremendous offensive support when he has taken the hill, as he has a subpar 4.78 ERA and 1.31 WHIP across 111 IP in 19 outings. Irvin has been a disaster lately, going 2-3 with a 6.45 ERA and 1.57 WHIP across 37 2/3 IP in his past seven starts. He has been poor all season on the road, too, turning in a 5.81 ERA and 1.41 WHIP across 57 1/3 IP in 10 starts, and teams are hitting a robust .270 against him.
For the Brewers, they’ll roll with All-Star RHP Freddy Peralta, although he will, of course, not appear in the midsummer classic since he is going on Sunday. Peralta has had a tremendous year in Cream City, posting a 10-4 record, 2.74 ERA and 1.09 WHIP with 111 strikeouts across just 105 IP in 19 starts. He is steaming toward the break, too, going 5-1 with a 2.70 ERA and 0.95 WHIP across 40 IP in his past 7 starts. And, if that doesn’t convince you, Peralta is 6-0 with a 1.56 ERA and 0.96 WHIP with 55 strikeouts and just 11 walks across 52 IP in 9 home starts.
Nationals vs Brewers prediction: Brewers -1.5 (-110) at time of publishing. Playable to -125.
