The Hawks are a good team (13-8 record), but this is an absolutely horrible spot for them. They are playing on no rest after enduring 2 overtimes, there was travel involved in this short 2-game road trip, they are undermanned with Trae Young (knee) sidelined and Kristaps Porzingis (illness) missing the last 2 contests and they are facing the best team in the Eastern Conference (Detroit tops the standings at 16-4). As such, my Hawks vs Pistons pick is for the home team to win and cover.

Detroit bounced back from its first 2-game skid of the season by beating Miami on Saturday and then enjoyed a day off. The Pistons are back at home, where they have lost only to Cleveland and Orlando — 2 of the East’s most talented teams — so far in 2025-26. Former #1 overall pick Cade Cunningham (28.8 ppg, 9.4 apg, 6.4 rpg) is playing at an MVP level and has led his squad in both points and assists in 6 consecutive contests. Jalen Duran and Duncan Robinson are listed as day-to-day, but regardless Detroit should have too much for Atlanta. The Hawks have to be gassed, and without Young and possibly Porzingis they probably don’t have the depth to overcome this kind of situation. They may call this one off early, content to go back home with a split of this back-to-back.
