Hawks vs Magic Pickswise Expert Predictions
The hype surrounding the Atlanta Hawks came down crashing on Wednesday night as they got destroyed by the Toronto Raptors 138-118 in their home season opener. The Hawks failed to back up all the good things they did over the summer as their defensive woes were once again exposed by a Raptors team that made only 6 threes and still beat them by 20 points. There were some positives to take away with 3 players scoring in double figures, however that won’t do the Hawks much if they don’t turn things around defensively. Now they face a defensive juggernaut in Orlando on Friday, hoping to get off the mark with a win. That’ll be a tough task considering the Hawks are just 3-8 ATS in 11 meetings with the Magic, plus in Orlando they’ve covered only once in 6 visits.
Desmond Bane was an instant impact for Orlando as he dropped 23 points in his debut for the team on Wednesday. Orlando is off to a 1-0 start to their season thanks to a tight 125-121 win over Miami. Similarly to Atlanta, there is a lot of hype around this Magic team, but unlike with the Hawks there is a good basis for that optimism. Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner are both healthy and Jalen Suggs successfully returned following knee surgery that derailed him last season. As long as the Magic stay healthy, they have the potential to be a force in the East. This team has been together for quite some time now, the addition of Bane improves them drastically on offense, but also gives them a tough minded player on the other end.
Playing at home was always a staple for Orlando, after the win against Miami in the opener they are now 5-1 SU in their last 6 at home. I have them winning here, but I feel like backing the points is a much better bet. Atlanta is 10-3 on the O/U vs East teams and 5-1 vs teams from the Southeast Division. Give me the over here.
