Hornets vs Hawks Pickswise Expert Predictions

Game Totals Pick
Under 233.5(-110)

Both the Charlotte Hornets and Atlanta Hawks will be playing the second leg of back-to-back situations when they square off on Sunday evening in Atlanta. There is too much uncertainty involving back-to-backs for my liking, so I will pivot to the game total and my Hornets vs Hawks pick is Under 233.5. Atlanta is more defense oriented with Trae Young sidelined (he is out for at least a couple more weeks). Head coach Quin Snyder’s crew went into New Orleans on Saturday and held the Pelicans to only 98 points — while scoring a modest 115 points of its own. The Hawks are only in the middle of the pack in pace of play (#14 league wide in possessions per game); normally they are one of the faster teams when Young is on the floor.

Charlotte is #21 in pace and #24 in that department over the past 3 contests. Unless LaMelo Ball heats up, the visitors probably won’t light up the scoreboard. Ball can’t throw it in the ocean right now. He is 4-for-25 from 3-point range over the past 3 outings. Rookie guard Kon Knueppel, so count on the Hawks sticking lockdown defender Dyson Daniels on the former Duke standout. With both teams playing their second game in as many nights, there is no reason for the pace to be quick. I expect Atlanta’s Kristaps Porzingis to sit out — and some other guys on both teams could be rested, as well, for load-management purposes.

Hornets vs Hawks prediction: Under 233.5 (-110) available at time of publishing. Playable to 232.5.
