Point Spread Pick
DET Pistons -4.0(-110)

Despite making just 6 threes the Pistons celebrated a big win over the Denver Nuggets on the road in their last game. That’s one of the strengths of this team, the three-point shot isn’t as crucial to some teams and they’re capable of locking down opponents to win games. They might need to display a similar performance on Thursday when they head to Phoenix for a date with the Suns. Aside from Caris LeVert the health situation is pretty good in Detroit, with their big name superstar Cade Cunningham playing and producing at a high level. The last 10 meetings have seen the Pistons win only twice, but with so much momentum on their side (4 wins in 5 road games) this is a really good chance to reverse that trend.

The main concern of the Suns ahead of this game is of course the absence of Devin Booker who is out with an ankle injury. In 6 games without him they’ve won just twice this season, with their offensive efficiency numbers plummeting in those games. Dillon Brooks has done his best to fill in the gaps, but as we saw in their last game they could barely beat the Brooklyn Nets at home. In 21 games at the Mortgage Matchup Center the Suns have only 6 losses to their name, that record will be put to the test for sure on Thursday. Their three-point shot has gone ice-cold as well with just 11, 7 and 5 threes made in the last 3 outings.

If we look only at head-to-head metrics, most of the numbers are on the Suns’ side here. However, at the moment Detroit is in far better shape. The absence of Booker and a consistent three-point shot will be too much to overcome against the East leading Pistons here. Cade and co. have 6 wins in 7 games, make it 7 of 8 after Thursday’s clash.
