It has been evident that the Utah Jazz have been trying to lose basketball games. By sitting starters in the fourth quarter of close games, the Jazz have succeeded — losing 8 of their last 9 games. Numerous players have been sidelined for Utah — such as Lauri Markkanen, Jaren Jackson Jr, Walker Kessler and Jusuf Nurkic. They will now host the Golden State Warriors Monday night. The Warriors are 1 game above .500 and they are currently the eighth seed in the Western Conference. With the sixth seed having a 6.5-game lead over the Warriors, there is little hope for Golden State to rise in the standings to get out of the play-in — but it does need to continue to win to avoid dropping to the ninth or 10th seed. The Warriors have had the Jazz’s number this season, winning all 3 games between these 2 teams by an average of 14 points.

But in those 3 matchups, the Warriors haven’t had as many injuries as they do now. Ruled out for this game are Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, Kristaps Porzingis, Al Horford and Moses Moody. The Warriors’ offense has been boiled down to needing to rely heavily on Draymond Green and Brandin Podziemski to carry the load. While both players have shown they can contribute to the Warriors as a whole, neither has proved to be a consistent #1 option. If Utah has a good shooting night, there is a possibility IT could just outshoot the Warriors. But based on Utah’s recent offensive performances, I don’t find that likely. The Jazz are just returning from a 3-game road trip where they struggled on offense. Against Milwaukee, the Jazz shot only 34% from the field and 12-of-49 from 3-point range. It’s difficult to confidently back either team heading into this game, but with both offenses having their concerns going in, I find it likely that at least one of these teams will struggle tonight — keeping this game under the total.
