The Clippers and Nuggets have gone back and forth in this series, with not much to separate the 2 teams ahead of Saturday’s winner-take-all matchup. LA will be encouraged after getting 28 and 8 from James Harden in Game 6, plus Norman Powell also stepped up with a series-high 24 in the win. Ivica Zubac also did his best in holding Nikola Jokic below his season averages, while the Croatian also recorded 3 blocks and a steal on Thursday. Experience will come into play on Saturday, and both Harden and Kawhi Leonard have each played in six Game 7s. If you’re a Clippers fan, you have to ask yourself whether you trust the Beard to come up big again. He logged 47 minutes on Thursday, while his meltdown from a couple of years back in Game 7 against Boston when he was with Philadelphia is still fresh in our memory.

As a franchise, the Nuggets are 4-4 in Game 7s, while Jokic is 3-2 with averages of 26 points, 16.6 rebounds and 7.2 assists. This will be a familiar situation for the Joker and his teammates, as the Nuggets flamed out in the West semis last year at home in a Game 7 scenario against Minnesota. You have to wonder whether they learned something from that defeat. Jamal Murray has delivered big time in his last two Game 7s, scoring 35 against Minnesota and dropping 40 against the Nuggets back in the bubble. Saturday’s game will be the 152nd Game 7 in NBA history (not counting the bubble season when nobody had home court) and we’ve seen the home team come out on top 110 times. However, the road teams are 8-4 SU in the last 12 of these.

This is a complete toss-up if you ask me, and I wouldn’t be shocked if either team won. However, I’m still inclined to give a small edge to the Nuggets simply because they have Jokic and what will almost certainly be a raucous crowd behind them at Ball Arena. He was relatively quiet in Game 6, and going out as the higher seed in a Game 7 in back-to-back seasons wouldn’t look good on his resume. Give me the Joker and his Nuggets to cover and advance.
