The Miami Heat take the quick ride up Florida’s Turnpike (OK, they probably still flew) to battle the Orlando Magic in their 2025-26 NBA season opener on Wednesday night. The Heat added the likes of Simone Fontecchio and Norman Powell, while Kyle Anderson, Haywood Highsmith, Kevin Love and Duncan Robinson are gone. They are depending upon a core group of new, young faces and some holdovers like Bam Adebayo and Kel’el Ware to get the job done. The Heat are big, and they should be a little bit fierce defensively, so that could be an issue for the Magic.

Orlando is a team that could be a deep sleeper in the Eastern Conference, with injuries to some key players on other contenders. Paolo Banchero, Jalen Suggs and Mo Wagner make up a good, young and organic Big 3 for the Central Florida NBA entrant, having fans thinking a deep run in the playoffs — as long as Orlando can stay healthy. Desmond Bane was an underrated addition from the Memphis Grizzlies, too, bolstering the perimeter shooting. This is a team that should have no problem brushing off the Heat in the opener, but it should still do so by single-digits. An 8-point spread is quite high.
