The firing of head coach Willie Green has not yielded a result yet, as the Pels fell to 0-3 following the loss to the Nuggets. Thought it should be mentioned that new interim coach James Borrego didn’t have the best of luck with the schedule, as he faced pretty stiff competition in the Warriors, Thunder and Nuggets. Friday sees the Pels take on a Mavs team that is very much beatable, in fact 1 of the 2 wins so far this season for New Orleans came in a game against the Mavs in the first week of November. That game saw just 200 points scored between the 2 teams, not a lot of good things happened to either side since then.

Dallas was dealt yet another injury blow on Wednesday with rookie Cooper Flagg missing the game against New York with an illness. His status is unknown ahead of Friday’s game. At 0-2, the Mavs are all but eliminated from West Group B of the NBA Cup. Scoring points has been a difficult task with so many players out injured, and the numbers show it. The Mavs rank 27th in points per game, averaging just 110.3 with the league’s worst offensive efficiency numbers. There is one positive they can base their optimism on ahead of this game and that’s the fact that they’ve won 10 of 13 meetings at home against the Pelicans.

Neither side has impressed so far, to put it mildly. New Orleans has struggled a lot with the long ball lately, making just 8 and 7 threes in 2 of 3 games. I’ll give the Mavericks the edge only because they are playing at home here.
