There’s no doubt the Thunder have impressed in their first 3 games since the All-Star break, taking down the Nets, Cavaliers and Raptors in that order. Wednesday sees them take on the East leading Detroit Pistons in what will be their toughest challenge they’ve faced in a while. The fact that it’ll be a 2nd night of a back-to-back makes things even more difficult considering SGA, Jalen Williams and Ajay Mitchell all remain out. The depth of the Thunder will be tested here, and there’s a reason that this team has been the underdog in just 3 games so far this year, winning 2 of those contests.

Pistons fans had high hopes before Monday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs, following their team’s wins over New York and Chicago after the break. Victor Wembanyama and co. proved to be too big of an obstacle to climb over, as Cade Cunningham had an unusually poor performance scoring just 16 points on 5-for-26 shooting. Jalen Duren excelled with 25 points and 14 rebounds; he could be in line for another solid game on Wednesday against one of the weaker rebounding teams in the league. This will be a big test for the Pistons, who have covered only once in 5 games vs West opponents and Detroit is just 1-4 against the spread in 5 games vs teams from the Northwest division.

Cade’s MVP case took a big hit in that loss to San Antonio, we all know he’s better than the 5-for-26 effort we saw in that game. Against the weakened Thunder playing on a 2nd night of a back-to-back I expect him to show off here. Not having to chase SGA or Jalen Williams around should make his life so much easier, the Thunder have lost their last 3 games played with no rest by double digits to Milwaukee, San Antonio and Charlotte. I’ll take the Pistons in this one.

Thunder vs Pistons parlay pick: Detroit Pistons ML over OKC Thunder (-295)

After 3 impressive wins following the All-Star break, Wednesday sees the Thunder take on the East-leading Detroit Pistons in what will be their toughest challenge they’ve faced in a while. The depth of the Thunder will be tested here, as only once this season was the spread on them bigger than the 7.5 points we’re getting ahead of Wednesday’s game. This team has been the underdog in just 3 games so far this year, winning two of those.

This will be a big test for the Pistons, but also a big opportunity for Detroit to prove wrong everyone who is writing them off following Monday’s loss. Thunder vs Pistons SGP pick: Duncan Robinson 3+ made threes (-156)

Duncan Robinson has been a very reliable option on offense for the Detroit Pistons, with at least 3 threes scored in 35 of 54 games played this season. For a bet that’s cashed in 65% of games, we are getting really solid odds on Wednesday against the Thunder. OKC ranks 3rd for threes given up as a team this season, and they also surrender the 7th-most threes to opposing shooting guards.

In his last 2 games, Robinson has been far more aggressive than he usually is, taking 15 and 12 shots, and I expect him to continue playing with that mentality as he won’t have to exert himself on defense with SGA being out of the OKC lineup. It’s quite obvious that this matchup suits him – he has cleared this line in 9 of the last 10 games vs the defending champs, averaging 4 made threes per game on over 42% efficiency. With him shooting 44.4% over his last 10 games overall, it’s really hard to ignore what the former Heat sharpshooter is doing. I’ll take my chances with him in Wednesday’s SGP.

Thunder vs Pistons SGP pick: Jalen Duren to record 12+ rebounds (+112)

We’re seeing a different Jalen Duran following the All-Star break. He has been a lot more aggressive on the offensive end in the 2 games against Chicago and San Antonio, going off for 25 and 26 points, respectively. He also added 14 and 13 rebounds, and the fact that he achieved those 2 stat lines in just 29 minutes played makes them all the more impressive. Getting to 12 rebounds might sound like a lot on paper, but given the Thunder rank 24th in the NBA in opponent rebounds, allowing 54.9 per game, it should be doable for a player of Duren’s caliber.

There could be some tired legs on the OKC roster following last night’s game at Toronto, and I quite like Duren’s matchup against Chet Holmgren down low. The momentum is clearly on the side of the Pistons center, as he has cleared this line in 6 of 10 games played. I have high hopes for Duren, so let’s hope he can deliver yet another quality performance.
