Magic vs Rockets Pickswise Expert Predictions

Point Spread Pick
HOU Rockets -8.0(-110)

Slowly but surely, the Orlando Magic have put together a 3-game win streak after wins over Portland, the Knicks and the Nets. However, I wouldn’t proclaim their early season struggles over just yet, as both Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner have suffered minor injuries this week. It’s unclear if either of them will be ready to play here, but even if one isn’t available it could be problematic against a high flying Rockets team. We all remember how last season went for Orlando, I’m willing to bet they learned a thing or two from that experience and both Banchero and Wagner won’t play unless they are 100% ready.

Meanwhile, the Houston Rockets are arguably a top 3 team in the league right now. Following their 0-2 SU start to the season they’ve gone on to win 8 of 9 games while averaging the most points per game. Only the OKC Thunder have a better Net Rating than the Rockets (+16.1) do during this stretch, this team just scored 140 on the Portland Trail Blazers in a dominant 24 point win on Friday. KD and co. mean business and they are doing it efficiently. Houston leads the league in three-point percentage at 42.7%, plus they’re the league’s best rebounding team at 49.4 boards per game. In the modern NBA size and shooting ability will win you a ton of games, only a couple of teams are capable of challenging the Rockets in those areas at the moment.

Houston seems to be the obvious pick here, especially if either one of Banchero or Wagner cannot go. In 13 meetings at Toyota Center the Rockets have lost just twice, they’ve covered in 5 consecutive games overall vs East teams and they’re a convincing 13-5 SU in 18 meetings with Orlando overall. I’ll back Durant and his Rockets to do well here.

Magic vs Rockets Predictions: Rockets -8 is available at time of publishing. Playable at that number,
