San Antonio Spurs vs Atlanta Hawks Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 12/19/25

As painful as it was to lose in that NBA Cup Final, it’s a valuable learning experience for this young and upcoming Spurs team. They bounced back well with a dominant 119-94 win over Washington, continuing to build on what has been a very respectable regular season so far. Victor Wembanyama continued to progress in his return from injury, and it’s only a matter of time until he is inserted back in the starting line-up, playing his normal 33+ minutes per game. That might happen as early as Friday against a Hawks team that’s playing on a 2nd night of a back-to-back. The Spurs have been a reliable 10-5 ATS in 15 games, and they’ve also dominated the head-to-head matchup — going 4-2 ATS/SU in 6 games.

Normally when a team gets its best player back from injury, it’s a positive, but I am not sure if that’s the case for the Atlanta Hawks and Trae Young. Let’s not get it twisted, Young is a special talent on the offensive end, as he led the league in assists per game last season. However, his thin frame has proven to be very detrimental to the Hawks on the defensive end and, at this point, he’s almost a net negative for the team. We saw exactly that last night in Charlotte when the Hornets dropped 133 points on the Hawks, and that’s a team that ranks only 18th in points averaging 115.5 per game. It gets even more difficult against the Spurs on Friday. I feel San Antonio’s guard play will just run over Young and the Hawks here.

Jalen Johnson is Atlanta’s only hope in this game, but even when he has a massive game the Hawks aren’t certain to win. San Antonio is in a good groove having won 4 in a row. As far as health goes, the Spursr are pretty much at full strength here. Wemby will dominate down low as Kristaps Porzingis is out along with two other centers. I’m backing the Spurs to cover.
