Best MLB player prop for Monday's slate: Whitlock bounces back

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Garrett Whitlock (72) throws against the Atlanta Braves in the first inning at Truist Park.

Happy Monday! We have a long week of baseball ahead of us and we have a solid slate of MLB games today, but there’s one player prop that I really like. Before that, be sure to check out our full game previews for tonight’s matchups.

Without further ado, let’s get into it!

Garrett Whitlock over 4.5 strikeouts (-118)

Some of you may remember that I took the over for Garrett Whitlock’s strikeouts in his last start and got burned by him getting pulled after 3.0 innings. But even with him only making it through 9 outs, he still struck out 5 batters. That’s why this strikeout total has me confused; Whitlock has had 5 days of rest and has hit this over in 3 of his 4 starts this season.

Whitlock is known for his efficiency as he has one of the best pitches per inning rates in baseball, but he wasn’t his normal self against the Braves. The righty threw 82 pitches and only 48 were strikes through 3.0 innings, which is uncharacteristic for him. Yet even with his poor performance in Atlanta, Whitlock still ranks in the 93rd percentile for whiff rate and in the 93rd percentile for strikeout rate.

If this number increases to 5.5 by game time, I might look somewhere else. But at 4.5, this is worth the bet. Back Whitlock to bounce back and record at least 5 strikeouts in Boston.
